Pitcher Jeremy Lee is working his way up the Major League Baseball ladder.
The former Morgan Academy and Meadowview Christian School standout is currently with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Lee was previously in Low-A ball with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels before moving up a class.
Lee was a 13th-round selection of Minnesota in the MLB Amateur Draft last year. Lee is pleased with the way things have started in his career.
“The process has been great,” Lee said. “I’m still learning how things work at this level and how to prepare myself to be ready for every start.”
A 2020 graduate of Morgan Academy, Lee said he has enjoyed the development to become a quality starter.
“The development has been great as well,” Lee said. “Developing new pitches and making the ones I already had better. Hopefully I can continue to develop and get better to keep making my way up.”
Lee credits his historic career at Morgan Academy. Lee is the only athlete named The Selma Times-Journal football player of the year and baseball player of the year during a career.
“I believe Morgan Academy was great for me at that time because we had some really talented players on the team and it helped us push each other to get better every day,” Lee said.
Lee said playing collegiately at South Alabama assisted him with the mental aspects of baseball.
“South Alabama definitely helped me physically mature, but I think the best thing college did for me was to learn how to handle failure and become better at the mental part of the game,” Lee said.
Lee admits plenty of work lies ahead.
“I’ve got a long way to go still,” Lee said.
