Bistro Manila officially held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to officially celebrate its opening.

Half of the eight member ownership group celebrated its opening with Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Selma City Council members Clay Carmichael, Jannie Thomas, Dallas County Commissioner Vivian Rogers, Orrville Councilwoman Jewell Williamson and other local business leaders.

Co-owners Ronald Nutt, Maybelle Nutt, Gilbert Golpeo and Pinchas Golpeo are all Selma residents. The remaining co-owners, Ed Odanglo, Carla Chan, Guia Caliwagan and Gina Brown, live in other parts of the country.

Gilbert Golpeo said it’s all about improving conditions in Selma.

“It’s a desire to help rejuvenate downtown Selma,” Gilbert Golpeo said. “There’s a need to help Selma.”

Ronald Nutt said the idea to open a restaurant that served Filipino food came from his home.

“We always had Filipino food, and we were getting tired of eating the same thing,” Ronald Nutt said. “Some people in Selma talked about having a restaurant and we decided to open a Filipino restaurant.”

Among the items on the menu include: Charcuterie with a Filipino twist, Crispy Lumpia, Savory Fried Siomai and Pansit in handy cups.
