The Veteran of Foreign Wars selected Selma native Earl Lewis Sr. its District 6 commander at a statewide meeting last week.
Lewis will oversee VFW operations in a district that includes Selma, Tuscaloosa, Butler, Demopolis/Linden, Thomasville, Jackson, Marion and Lisman. Lewis will coordinate efforts across several counties, provide resources and support local VFW posts with their families.
Dennis Doherty, a Selma resident and former VFW state commander, is pleased at the selection of Lewis.
“Having Earl Lewis Sr. as District 6 commander ensures that our region is well-represented,” Doherty said. “His leadership and experience are invaluable, and he is well-prepared to step in as state-level representative.”
VFW quartermaster Aaron Roper said having Lewis in a prominent leadership role is significant.
“The Selma community and beyond can take pride in Earl Lewis Sr.’s achievements and look forward to his continued contributions to the welfare of veterans in Alabama,” Roper said. “Lewis brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by veterans. His leadership will be instrumental in driving forward initiatives that support veterans at both the district and state levels.”
