Asher HaVon returns to Selma for the first time since winning season 25 of NBC’s “The Voice” on Saturday.
“Welcome Home Asher HaVon” starts with a meet and greet at Reflections Coffee Shoppe from 2-4 p.m., followed by a celebration parade that starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall and ends on Water Avenue. The evening ends with HaVon’s concert at the Selma Amphitheatre at 7 p.m.
HaVon, 31, always showed the Queen City love, especially after winning “The Voice” and spoke to a nationwide NBC-TV audience. HaVon also said he’s looking forward to returning home this weekend.
“I would not be here without Selma,” HaVon said. “Selma has given me a foundation that I don’t believe I would have gotten anywhere else. The people that are in Selma understand what it means to come from small beginnings and face the world. She’s a beautiful example on how to handle adversity gracefully and rise above it, and still stand. And as an artist, every time I stand on stage, I just feel like the strength that Selma has taught me always shows up and (will) catapult me forward.”
HaVon’s concert includes Alyssa Crosby, Mark Taylor Tee-Tee Baker and DJ Barack.
The homecoming for HaVon is sponsored by City of Selma, Reflections Coffee Shoppe, Levitt AMP Selma and Foot Soldiers Park.
May 21 will forever be known in Selma as Asher HaVon as the City Council signed a resolution on May 28.
