Electricity was in the air as singer Asher HaVon made a triumphant return to Selma on Saturday after winning season 25 of “The Voice.”
During the day, HaVon graciously signed autographs and posed for photos with Selma residents, many of whom he grew up with. HaVon spoke in a cracked voice as he talked to the audience.
“I am so glad to be back in Selma,” HaVon said. “I am forever grateful, forever inspired, and forever blessed to call Selma my home.”
As the sun set, HaVon participated in a parade starting at City Hall on Broad Street and ending at the Selma Amphitheatre.
High-profile officials participated in the parade: Mayor James Perkins Jr., Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Selma Council members Michael Johnson and Lesia James, Dallas County Commissioners Connell Towns, and Vivian Rogers. Councilman Sam Randolph and Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Collins Pettaway Jr. both attended the autograph signing.
At night, HaVon closed the evening with a concert before a packed, jubilant crowd. HaVon thanked the Queen City residents for attending and announcing that he’s going on a five-city tour in the fall.
“As I took my first step onto the stage, my heart skipped a beat,” HaVon said. “The sight that unfolded before my eyes was beyond anything I could have ever imagined – a breathtaking sea of thousands of passionate souls, united by their love for music and their unwavering support. In that moment, I felt the immense power of my hometown, Selma, Alabama, coursing through my veins. It was a humbling reminder of the indomitable spirit and unwavering love that binds us all together.”
Lydia Chatmon, Collins Pettaway III, City of Selma City Staff, including Danielle Wooten, former Selma City Councilwoman Angela Benjamin and the Levitt AMP Selma staff did a wonderful job in making the HaVon event successful.
