Fashion on the River celebrated its 10th anniversary with a strong show and two scholarship giveaways last weekend at Finesse Kouture.
Models and designers who participated in the show were local and out of town. Walteria Curtis and Shara Nelson each received $550 FOTR X scholarships. Nelson’s mother, Teresa Purifoy accepted the scholarship on her behalf.
FOTR founder Aisha Smith said she was pleased with how the show turned out.
“It’s not often you get an opportunity to live out a childhood dream,” Smith said. “It’s rare to live out that dream in a small city with people you’ve known forever. Thank you to every model that travels to Selma to walk, thank you to every vendor that travels to Selma, thank you to every designer who travels to Selma, thank you to every attendee who travels to Selma and thank you to Selma for 10 years of unwavering support even when I have glitches in the shows you guys still show up and embrace what I am trying to do.”
Walteria Curtis’ mother, Cicely Curtis, praised Smith for always running a strong show.
“The fashion show was a true reflection of her passion, dedication, hard work, and love for Selma,” Cicely Curtis said. “It was evident Aisha once again put her heart and soul into planning and executing FOTR, and her passion for fashion since we were little girls has always been truly inspiring.”
