An African-American man was injured during a shooting at Wal-Mart on Monday morning.
According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy John Hatfield, SPD officers and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at the 1500 block of Hwy 14 East, in reference to a subject with a gun around 4 a.m.
Hatfield said that a mentally ill person contacted the DCSO and said he’d shot someone. Hatfield also said that the SPD and DCSO arrived at Walmart after a second call was made by the same person.
“Upon arrival, officers made contact with a black male subject with a weapon in the parking lot,” Fulford said. “The subject then pointed the weapon at the officers and shots were fired in which the subject was struck.”
Fulford said that no officers were injured. The victim was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s emergency room for treatment. The State Bureau of Investigations is handling the case and not ready to reveal the victim’s identity.
No further details are being released at this time and Fulford said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information to help the investigation, contact the SBI at (334) 676-6000.
