Selma native Jeremiah Wright enters the 2024 football season looking to solidify his place on the Auburn offensive line.

This spring, Wright earned praise from head football coach Hugh Freeze after Wright appeared in 12 games as a freshman in 2022 and 11 games as a sophomore last year. Entering the offseason, many are projecting Wright as a starter at right guard for the Tigers.

However, that isn’t what Wright is focused on.

“I’m just, you know, keeping my head down, keep working and keep grinding,” Wright said. “I’m just putting my faith in God to just keep working and trusting the process.”

During summer workouts, right now he’s preparing for the season by getting in the weight room with the team.

“Right now, it’s summer workout, so we’re training hard. We’re working out. We’re in the weight room,” Wright said. “We’re running, just trying to get our body right, getting conditioned and get in shape for the season and then fall camp next month. We want to be in shape for fall camp because when we get in fall camp, it’s time to go.”

Wright said he talks with fellow Selma alum Lachavious Simmons “all the time.” Simmons signed with the Tennessee Titans last fall and is looking to make it on the roster in 2024.

So when Simmons decided to come back to Memorial Stadium and conduct a camp last week, Wright was ready to help.

“He’s been talking about the camp some months ago before he even had it sent out,” Wright said. “We always talked about just giving back, trying to find something to give back to Selma in the future. I want to try to get us in our own stadium and go from there with football. It’s just the start for us right now.”

Wright’s goals are to be the best football player he can be at Auburn and trying to earn the invite to the NFL.

“My goals are just being the best in my position, being the best in the country and seeing where that goes, you know, getting my name out there,” Wright said.
