Rita Carmichael received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her accomplishments as a Meadowview Elementary School teacher and member of Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ.
Anita C. Roberts, executive director of the Black Business Journal, presented the award to Carmichael, recognizing her dedication as a sixth-grade teacher.
“Rita Carmichael exemplifies what it means to serve with passion and dedication,” Roberts said. “Her work with children, her commitment to education, and her tireless efforts to uplift those around her make her a true beacon of hope. This award recognizes not just what she has done, but who she is — a person of extraordinary character and unwavering dedication.”
Carmichael said the award is more of a reflection on the students she taught.
“This award is not just for me, but for every child who has ever been inspired to dream big, every student who has ever struggled and persevered, and every teacher who has ever believed in the potential of their students,” Carmichael said. “I am deeply honored and thankful for this recognition, but the real reward is seeing the success of the children I have had the privilege to work with.”
Gospel Tabernacle Pastor John E. Grayson praised Carmichael’s dedication and enthusiasm.
“Carmichael is an advocate for children and their wellbeing,” Grayson said. “She’s a dedicated worker and has a helper’s heart.”
