Author Jackson Knight will speak at the Selma Dallas County Historic Preservation Society on August 6 from 5-7 p.m.
Knight will discuss his recent book, “The Churches of the Alabama Blackbelt” and “Ramblin’ the Blackbelt,” which includes Dallas County, Wilcox County, Monroe County, Lowndes County and Perry County.
Knight will also appear at The Orrville Farmer’s Market on August 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cindy Yeager, a member of the SDCHPS, is impressed with Knight’s versatility. Knight is also a successful photographer and historian.
“Mr. Knight loves photography, flying drones, and history, thus his love for these hobbies prompted him to take on a very challenging project, photographing all the churches in the Blackbelt,” Yeager said. “His decision to start such an ambitious project was prompted by attempting to photograph the remaining fire towers in the state of Alabama. While most are no longer serviceable, his love for fire towers was prompted by his grandfather who was a tower man. Thus one love has prompted other projects.’’
