Former Southside High School football coach Daniel Flowers couldn’t pass up an opportunity to coach again.
Flowers was named football coach at Coosa Central High School last week. Flowers said Brandi Lee, Adam Hopper, Dr. Rush, Dustin Smith and Paige Jones made it all happen for him.
“I thank them for the opportunity to get me back into the high school football game,” Flowers said.
Dallas County remembers Flowers as a hard-nosed, competitive coach for eight years with the Panthers between 2011 and 2018. Flowers started with four losing seasons before leading his team to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2016 and 2017. Flowers was named Selma Times-Journal football coach of the year in 2016.
Flowers left Southside for Wenonah, spending two years and going 6-13.
At Coosa Central, Flowers said he sees a challenge.
“You’ve got to establish a new culture,” Flowers said. “You’ve got to establish discipline and the organizational type stuff, but you want to give them a sense of belief. That all starts with culture. I just want to teach these kids what I’ve learned because I’ve always been at struggling programs.”
Flowers is a Dothan native and a former football player. He later attended Alabama State University before getting into coaching.
