The 59th anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights  Act will be celebrated on Saturday night at Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church. 

The event, held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., is also known as the kickoff “Get Out to Vote” Ward 7 Rally. Voter registration and education forums, information on where to vote and getting rides to the polls will also be discussed. 

State Sen. Robert Stewart, D-Selma, encourages Selma and Dallas County residents to attend the event and let their voices be heard. 

Selma City Councilwoman Jannie Thomas also said it is also important for residents because of the upcoming election on November 5.
