State Sen. Robert Stewart, D-Selma, and Selma City Council President Billy Young will represent Dallas County at the Democratic Convention next month in Chicago.
Stewart and Biden were elected by state citizens on March 4 to serve as delegates for the Seventh Congressional District at the convention, which runs August 18-23. Dallas County is included in the Seventh Congressional District.
“The Biden Harris Administration has instituted historic legislation,” Young said. ”In particular, President Biden has shown his commitment to non-entitlement communities such as Selma. In Selma’s time of great need, President Biden offered unprecedented assistance of which I will always be thankful.”
Stewart, serving his first term in the State Legislature, thanked President Biden for helping the Black Belt region improve conditions.
“I’m grateful for the strides that the country has made under President Biden,” Stewart said. “The Black Belt will continue to feel the investment in years to come with the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure law which will fund critical water and sewerage projects in the region.”
Young and Stewart both believe Vice President Kamala Harris will be a good President since Biden won’t seek re-election.
“I believe Vice President Harris will continue the federal government’s commitment in repairing and restoring Selma,” Young said. “Therefore, I proudly support the election of Vice President Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States. As I prepare to attend the Democratic Convention as a delegate and as a son of Selma, Alabama, I am inspired and I am thrilled to support the Democratic nominee for President.”
Added Stewart: “I’m enthusiastic to support and encourage all to coalesce around Vice President Harris to build upon this progress.”
