Selma High School first-year principal Dr. Kesia Smith is reminding students and their parents about rules and guidelines for the 2024-25 school year.

School starts Monday at 7:25 a.m. and ends after the fourth period at 2:55 p.m.

Smith, a 1994 graduate of Selma High, said attending day one is a big deal.

“You must be present on the first day of school or you will be withdrawn, and a parent will have to come to the school to re-enroll you,” Smith said. “You may lose the schedule that you had. It is very important for you to come on the first day of school.”

Smith also said exterior doors electronically lock at 8:05 a.m. each day.

“Please make sure you are in class by 7:55 to avoid having to enter the building at the front office and check in at the attendance office,” Smith said. “Even if you are in the building, if you are late to your class, you will be required to check in at the attendance office.”

Before the first period, Smith said students will have a Saints time, consisting of Advisory lessons, and learning supports taught Monday through Wednesday. Enrichment activities, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and other opportunities will be offered on Thursdays and Fridays.

Guidelines are set in place for car riders and bus riders:

Car Riders: The school resource officer will direct traffic in the mornings and afternoons. Large directional signs will be posted for student drop-off and pick-up locations and any upcoming announcements.

Bus Riders: Bus riders must make sure they have acquired the pick-up and drop-off times and locations of their respective buses. Buses will drop off and pick up at the side entrance of the cafeteria.

Parking passes for student drivers are $25, and every car must have a parking decal. Students must have a copy of their driver’s license and insurance card.
