Salad will be main attraction at the Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society (SDCHPS) annual salad luncheon on Wednesday, August 21 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.
Candi Duncan, treasurer for SDCHPS, said the event, which is their main fundraiser for the year, will feature just about any kind of salad you’d want.
“We will have chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad, pasta salad and just about anything you can think of in a salad,” Duncan said. “We will make deliveries to places where six or more plates are ordered, but I really think it’s best to come in and eat with us.”
Duncan said those who come in are able to make their own plates and try as many different kinds of salads as they want.
“I think one girl came last year and went back three times through the line,” Duncan said. “You can go back as many times as you want.”
In addition to the salad, Duncan said there will be plenty of desserts to try as well.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from any SDCHPS Board Member or by calling 334-412-8550. Very few, if any, tickets will be available at the door, so Duncan said you need to reserve your tickets ahead of time. Your tickets will be available at “will-call.”
Proceeds from the luncheon will support the SDCHPS and its ongoing preservation efforts. The SDCHPS is a non-profit organization with a mission to protect, preserve, and restore Selma and Dallas County’s past.
“By attending this event, you are directly contributing to preserving our area’s historic sites and promoting our cultural heritage,” said Duncan, an SDCHPS board member. “We have a lot of expenses to cover throughout the year to help maintain these sites. We hope everyone will come out and support us.”
The salad luncheon, founded in 1971, is a celebration of culinary delights and a vital fundraiser supporting the society’s ongoing preservation efforts.
