The 2024-2025 United Way Campaign is in full swing. United Way supports 15 local agencies and 2 direct service programs Doc On The Spot and 211 and HealthLink prescription drug service.
During the past two years, United Way in conjunction with the Long Term Recovery Group worked to provide relief to those affected by the tornado that hit Selma in January 2023.
Since that time United Way has been a part of 53 relief cases providing furniture to rebuild a complete home. And the work still goes on United Way funded three cases in July 2024 totaling over $45,000 for home repairs.
The annual United Way campaign is a chance for the community to support all the agencies and programs the United Way supports. There is no aspect of life in Selma that a United Way agency is not providing a service to. From youth services, feeding programs, free medical care, domestic violence programs, mental health programs, elderly programs and literacy programs to emergency family assistance.
Without the support of this community, United Way would be unable to continue providing funds to all these agencies, and thousands of residents in our community would be affected.
Here is a list of United Way Agency Partners: YMCA, Salvation Army, SABRA Sanctuary, Red Cross, Dallas County Family Resource Center, Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center, West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center( Easter Seals), Cahaba Center, Selma AIR, Special Years Plus, Selma Area Food Bank, Literacy Out Reach Program, Bosco Soup Kitchen, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Direct service programs and partnerships include Doc On The Spot free medical clinic, 211 information and referral, HealthLink prescription drug assistance, VOAD and Dallas County Medical Reserve Corp.
