The Selma Police Department is investigating an apparent kidnapping and assault over the weekend.
Police have arrested Woody Lanard Jenkins, 46, of Selma and charged him with kidnapping first degree and domestic violence first degree. He was given no bond during his arraignment, according to jail records.
On Sunday, Sept. 29, at 11:49 a.m., the Selma Police Department responded to a residence regarding an assault. Upon arrival, officers met with the female victim, who was accompanied by her sister, in the driveway.
According to a statement released by the SPD, the sister stated that she had not heard from her sister in days and came to check on her.
“Officers observed that the victim had a cast on her right wrist and various types of injuries,” Chief Kenta Fulford said in a statement. “The victim stated that for the past three days, Woody Jenkins broke her phone, starved her, locked her inside the residence, beat her with an extension cord, burned her with cigarettes, cut her hair and broke her wrist. The sister stated that Woody Jenkins was inside the residence being distracted by her husband.”
First responders transported the victim to a safe location and then transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Officers took Jenkins into custody on Sunday.
The statement indicated that more charges are pending.
