Beginning Monday, Alabama high school seniors will have the opportunity to apply to colleges and universities around the state at no cost during Alabama College Application Week 2024 on Oct. 7-11.

Wallace Community College Selma is one of the numerous colleges who have waived their fees for Alabama seniors next week.

Dr. James M. Mitchell, President of Wallace Community College Selma, is encouraging local students to take advantage of this opportunity and take the first step in continuing their education after high school

“Alabama College Application Week is a fantastic opportunity for our students to take a significant step toward their future without the barrier of application fees,” Mitchell said. “We encourage all eligible students to take full advantage of this initiative and explore the many educational pathways available.”

Dr. Monica P. Mack, Alabama College Application Campaign (ALCAC) Coordinator, said this is a great opportunity for local high schools to get involved with helping their students continue their educational journey.

“During this event, local high schools will be hosting special college application celebrations with students submitting applications to colleges nationwide,” Mack said. “Last year, more than 250 Alabama schools participated and nearly 28,000 students applied to colleges nationwide.”

Alabama College Application Week was started more than 10 years ago to increase the overall number of students in our state applying to, and ultimately enrolling in, postsecondary education.

The Cash for College FAFSA initiative, Alabama College Application Campaign and Decision Day were combined into a single campaign (Alabama Goes to College) to help more K-12 students apply to college early and complete their FAFSA applications.

A key goal of this initiative is to increase the number of young people, especially first- generation and low-income students, pursuing college degrees.
