Last year, Cynthia Perkins knew Selma needed to do something to raise breast cancer awareness and to the recognized survivors.

What was birthed out of that was the Sprinkle Me Pink Breast Cancer Walk. A year later, Perkins, a breast cancer survivor, wants to build on the success of last year with the second annual event hosted by the BUILD Community Development Corporation on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bloch Park.

New to this year’s event is the addition of teams. She is asking local businesses and organizations to build teams to help raise money to help cancer survivors here in Selma and Dallas County.

“Each team is asked to make a $100 donation,” Perkins said. “This walk is dedicated to raising awareness, funds for breast cancer patients and community fellowship. I am asking you and your team to set up your information table/booth inside the walking trail.”

Perkins said she wants teams to be creative with their themes. They are also asked to snacks, light refreshment items, breast cancer awareness items, etc. She does not want teams, however, to set up grills.

“I want to keep the focus on walking, breast cancer awareness and community fellowship,” Perkins said. “Breast cancer is a disease that affects millions of people worldwide, including many of our loved ones. Proceeds will help those affected by breast cancer with their doctor visits, mileage, lodging, and accessories from chemo/radiation treatment.

BUILDCDC will use the proceeds go toward organizations that are helping the lives of those individuals and families need help.

“I believe that together, we can make a major impact. Your support, whether through a donation or by joining me in the walk, will mean the world to me and to those who benefit from this fundraiser. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us together to help someone with their breast cancer journey,” Perkins said.
