The Quilt of Time, Art Exhibition Premieres Saturday

The Quilt of time is an art exhibition showcased by Selma’s own Amy Strand and The Harmony Club, premiering this weekend on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The opening reception takes place on 1007 Water Ave from 4 to 7 p.m., introducing elements from the Quilt of Time art installation featuring the time, the quilt and the circle, according to Anne Strand’s post online. 

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring again, and the cycle of Birth, Death, and Rebirth is called the Eternal Return. It is the eternal repetition of nature’s seasons. The circle of life that returns us to the beginning where we are transformed, a type of resurrection. This gives mind to

the shape of the spanning Selma Bridge as it is reflected in the passing water below. The bridge’s goal is to help bring us all together, make us whole and complete. Its hope is to connect us, one side to the other, bridging and overcoming our conflicts. Leading us into understanding and harmony where all facets of time work in perfect accord”, said Strand, through her post online about her art piece that was inspired by the Selma Edmund Pettis bridge that many in the city come across every day.

On Sunday, Nov. 24th, Strand and Selma Artist Tres Taylor will partner together to have “Gallery Talk” introducing artwork from ‘The Unconscious & Creativity’ part of the event starting at 3 p.m. and concluding at 5 p.m. at The Harmony Club.

Starting Tuesday, Nov.26 through Friday, Nov.29, gallery hours to review the exhibition starts from 3 to 5 p.m. for any residents who would like to see the exhibit that couldn’t over the weekend prior.

“Mom’s new work is her best as far as I am concerned and I have been surrounded and embraced by it my entire life, said AC Reeves, owner of Selma’s 5 and Dime and daughter of Strand.

The art exhibition will also have a closing event called “Old Enough” featuring an artist roundtable with Sara Armstrong, Patricia Gaines, Jeanie Thompson, and Anne Strand that will take place Sunday, Dec.1 from 3 to 5 p.m.
