For years, the Selma-Dallas County Public Library has always contributed their knowledge to the public whether it’s through children programs dedicated to the betterment of young children within the community or how-to programs catered to adults in the community who seek a better lifestyle.
For this year and this holiday season, the library decided to switch things up in the programming department for kids, showcasing the Grinch on Monday, kicking off the Christmas holiday season.
“On Monday morning, we celebrated the Christmas season by honoring one of our favorite books called The Grinch Stole Christmas,” said Becky Nichols, The Selma-Dallas County Public Library director. “Everybody loves that story. So, we thought, well let’s have a Grinch come visit the library.”
Nichols said the festive event lasted for just one hour but during that hour, the kids who attended the event had an opportunity to not only see the Grinch but had Christmas-themed activities dedicated to the festive holiday.
“During the event, we had Christmas crafts so that the kids could come together and make a craft or two, put them in the bags provided and while on their way to visit the Grinch, they were able to have a donut and just a fun holiday experience,” Nichols said.
“The event was greatly attended,” according to Nichols, where there were 156 people at the event from parents, kids and members of the community and said since everybody in the community associates the library with fun, that is what led to the library’s big turnout including the popular story known by many, as “How The Grinch that Stole Christmas.”
“Remember the story of the Grinch, Christmas came even though the Grinch stole the tree, the presents, Christmas still came and the beauty of that is really a message that we, here at the Library like to send out to all the families, that’s it’s not the fluff, we know the real meaning of Christmas,” Nichols said.
Nichols said she hopes everybody has a good Christmas and to remember in January, the library is hosting an adult program and book event called “Georgina Cross,” and encourages those in the community to come out.
Not only will the library feature Georgina Cross, each month all the way until May 1, they will feature other book events catered to adult programming and throughout the months, they will have events catered to home skills, segments through their what’s cooking at the library event and special how-to do classes through their make and take programs as well.
