Area tournaments will be kicking off Thursday as the playoffs begin for local basketball teams.

Three of the tournaments will be held in Dallas County.

Selma High School’s boys and girls teams both finished undefeated in area play and earned the right to host the tournament on Feb. 3, 4 and 6. Keith’s boys will also host their area tournament on Feb. 1, 4 and 6.

Here is a breakdown of the tournaments:

Class 5A, Area 5

The boys area tournament begins Monday,, Feb. 3, at Selma High School with Demopolis playing Jemison at 5 p.m. followed by the Saints vs. the Montevallo Bulldogs at 6:15 p.m. The championship game is set for Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.

The girls tournament starts Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Selma High School with Jemison hosting Montevallo at 5 p.m. followed by the home-standing Saints hosting Demopolis at 6:15 p.m. The winners of each game will play each other Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.

Class 1A, Area 5 Boys Tournament

Keith will host the boys area tournament beginning Saturday, Feb. 1 when Linden and A.L. Johnson will face off at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game faces the home-standing Bears on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. R.C. Hatch plays University Charter on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.

The championship game is Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.

Class 1A, Area 5 Girls

Keith’s girls basketball team earned the No. 2 seed and will play A.L. Johnson at R.C. Hatch on Monday, Feb. 3, at 5 p.m. Hatch plays the winner of Linden-University Charter at 6:30 p.m. The championship game is Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. at Hatch.

Class 1A, Area 7

Francis Marion hosts the boys and girls area tournaments Jan. 30, Feb. 1 and Feb. 3.

Ellwood Christian’s girls play in the first game Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. against Breakthrough Charter while the boys play against the same school.

Both winners advance to play Francis Marion’s teams. The girls game is Friday, Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. while the boys play Saturday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. Maplesville and Billingsley’s girls and boys play the earlier games at 5 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively on those days.

The championship games will be at 5 and 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3.

Class 3A, Area 4

Southside’s teams will be traveling to Wilcox-Central for the area tournament on Friday, Jan. 31. The girls play Wilcox-Central at 5:30 p.m. while the boys play Thomasville at 7 p.m.

The winner of the girls game plays Thomasville in the championship on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m. while the winner of the boys game plays Wilcox-Central at 7 p.m.

Class 3A, Area 5 girls

Dallas County will take on Thorsby in the 4-5 game at Saint James on Friday, Jan. 31, at 4:45 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday, Feb. 1, against Saint James at noon. The championship will be played at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Class 3A, Area 5 boys

Dallas County will take on Alabama Christian Academy in the 2-3 game at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Montgomery Academy. The championship will be Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m.
