City’s response

District Attorney Robert Turner said his office is deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic shooting that took place tonight at Walmart.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone in our community affected by this senseless act of violence,” Turner said. “We understand that this event has caused fear and concern throughout our community. Let us be clear—our office is committed to holding those responsible accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Acts of violence like this have no place in our society, and we will not rest until justice is achieved for the victims and their loved ones.

“We also call on the community to stand together in the face of this tragedy. Now is the time for unity, resilience, and collective action to create a safer environment for all. We encourage anyone with information related to this case to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts.”

Mayor Perkins said said the incident left him speechless for a time.

“Citizens should be able to go to Walmart, move throughout our community, and shop without incident. No one deserves this and this violence must stop,” Perkins said. “Safety is all of our concern and is our priority. And through the joint efforts of our law enforcement agencies, justice will be served.

“Finally, these are very difficult times for everyone. The anxiety level of people across this nation

is higher than ever before. It is important that each of us decompress our feelings and better

control our emotions. I continue in constant prayer for our nation and I encourage all to do

likewise.”
