The Selma Police Department is seeking help from the community in locating Rueben Emil Butler Sr.
Butler is wanted on two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old and has been known to frequent Selma and the Montgomery area, Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said.
“The department is working a complaint involving the sexual abuse of two minors and both victims are under the age of 12,” he said. “He was developed as a suspect, which led detectives to continue the investigation and obtain warrants for Mr. Butler’s arrest.”
Riley said the department considers Butler a danger to the youth and asks anyone with information related to his whereabouts to contact the crime stoppers line.
Butler is a 52-year-old black male who is 5-foot-9-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds.
Crimes against children, Riley said, are of great concern to the department. He appealed to members of the community to come forward with any information they might have.
“Anytime you’ve got somebody that is a suspect in sexually harming children, we consider them a threat,” he said. “We want to make sure we get the information out that we are looking for him, and hopefully we can bring him in as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the department’s crime stopper line at 1-800-442-7463 or secret witness line at 874-2190.
