Holiday House has strong crowds

The first day of the annual Holiday House did not disappoint vendors, organizers, and judging by the crowds, shoppers.
Throughout the day, Candi Duncan, who was manning the register for the Holiday House, said there was a steady wave of eager people ready to cross items off their Christmas lists.
From the time the doors opened to late in the afternoon, Duncan said people continued to walk through the door.
“It has gone wonderful, we have been busy as bees,” she said. “We didn’t have a slowdown until late in the afternoon. We were so busy.”
The Holiday House, which is the only fundraiser for the Old Depot Museum, began 30 years ago to promote the Christmas spirit, tourism and local talents of Selma.
Throughout the last three decades, Duncan said the event has proven to be a positive addition.
“It’s a good thing for the community and it’s a good thing for the people that sell their wares,” she said. “We are looking forward to being here again next year if everything works out.”
This year, Duncan said there was more interest from vendors as well as shoppers. The 2010 Holiday House had about 48 vendors. This year, Duncan said, there are about 60.
“We had some vendors with some really good looking stuff too,” she said. “The items are so pretty and so nice.”
The Holiday House is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5:30 p.m.
The sale, which is located in the Larry D. Striplin Performing Arts Center, will be open through Dec. 17.
