A Selma favorite will again open to the public Wednesday when the Cahaba Center for Mental Health kicks off its annual Christmas Village from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Each year, Cahaba Center Executive Director Lafon Barlow said clients of the center work hard to produce items to be sold at the annual village and are always excited to show off their skills.
This year, Barlow said many different styles of crafts will be on sale.
“We’re going to have all kinds of hand-painted ceramics like we usually do, and we’ll have some new, very pretty pieces,” she said.
“We’ve got some handmade ornaments for sale, handmade quilts for sale and lots of other items.”
There will also be a few poinsettias for sale in the lobby.
The Christmas village located in the lobby will be lit up and ready, Barlow said, and Selma Mayor George Evans will kick off the program by lighting the Cahaba Center’s Christmas tree,
Proceeds from the sale, Barlow said, are placed back into the programs to provide supplies.
“It helps provide supplies all year long for the programs,” she said. “If we sell a quilt, we put the money back into buying supplies to make the quilts. It’s the same for ceramics and other things. It helps them all year long have things they are working on.”
The village will be held at the Cahaba Center’s 417 Medical Center Parkway location in Selma.
