Betty Jayne Sands Hensley
Betty Jayne Sands Hensley, 79, of Staunton, VA, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at her residence. She was born January 24, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late Russel and Alice Sands. Prior to living in Staunton, they resided in Snow Hill, MD, and Selma, AL. She was an artist, who was talented in both painting and crewel embroidery.
She was a member of an Embroider’s Guild.
She is survived by her husband, Carl V.W. Hensley.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date with McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, VA handling arrangements.
Ivan Bonner Boley, Sr.
Ivan Bonner Boley, Sr., 86, died Monday, May 30, 2005, in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at New Live Oak with Ray Boley and Mark Smith officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Mr. Boley is survived by a son, Ivan B. Boley, Jr., daughter Nancy Mott, three grandchildren, Tiffany Brady, Kristy Smith, Cheryl Harris, seven great grandchildren, Jason Smith, Brandon Lee, Devon Lee, Bonner Harris, Aaron Lee, Caroline Harris, and Dalton Brady, two brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be James Boley, Ray Boley, Jason Smith, Russell Harris, Tommy Brady, and Jared Mott.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2005 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.
Milton A.Pearson
Milton A. “M A” Pearson, 83, a lifelong resident of Selma and the Valley Grande Community, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005. Mr. Pearson was born in Selma, AL, on March 31, 1922.
He was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon and sang in the choir.
Mr. Pearson served in the US Army and was discharged in February 1946. In 1969 he retired from Craig Air Force Base after over 20 years in Civil Service.
Afterward he formed Pearson Construction Company and was a full time housing contractor until his second retirement in 1986.
He was a master carpenter and cabinet maker.
He could build anything.
Mr. Pearson was a Free and Accepted Mason and received his 50 year pin in 2001.
He loved singing and he loved music.
For many years he was a member of the Riverboat Ramblers of the SPEBSQSA Barbershop singers.
In recent years he enjoyed camping and playing the dulcimer and psaltery with his many friends at Tannehill State Park. He was also a member of the Central Alabama Strummers.
He enjoyed working in his garden, tending to his flowers, and cooking BBQ and homemade Brunswick Stew at family reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Austin Pearson and Sadie Fischer Pearson, a daughter, Sandra Gail Pearson, his brothers, William E Pearson, and Thomas Arnold Pearson; sisters, Sadie Olivia Bolen, Naomi Austin “BoPeep” Godwin and Helen Inez Hart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Katherine Godwin Pearson; two daughters, Cheryl Pearson (Mike) Bailey and Lizabeth Pearson Henry of Birmingham; one son, Milton Austin Pearson of Selma; four grandchildren, Robert Michael Bailey of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Amanda Bailey (Matt) Leach of Homewood, AL, Kevin Michael Lovoy and Catherine Marie “Cammy” Lovoy of Birmingham; sister, Louise Pearson (Vic) Vickers of Selma.
He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews whom he loved very much and by family friend, Andy Dundon.
Mr. Pearson loved life and he loved his Lord and Savior.
He leaves a legacy of love, kindness and friendship that touched all who knew him.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M Wednesday June 1, 2005, in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Ira Blanchard and Rev. Peter Blair.
Active pallbearers will be: Eugene Garrison, Edward Morrow, Dan Godwin, Leon Reese, Cecil LaGrone, and Andy Dundon.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Cecil Gardner, Eugene McLemore, Mike Howley, Gordon Angeles, John Harlow, Herb Vickers, Tommy Pearson, Jr.
Frank Hollman, and Walter Hollman.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or to Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Edna Mae Clark
Edna Mae Clark, age 94, of Demopolis, Alabama passed Sunday, May 29, 2005, at nursing home in Demopolis, Alabama.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2005, at 10:00 at Eastern Star Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama, with the Rev. Terry Gosa officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.
Public viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
