Today is the last day for Selmians to come out and see the Moving Wall, the travelling Vietnam War Memorial that has been set up at the Old National Guard Armory all week.

The exhibit will close approximately at 2 p.m. with a closing ceremony.

“The ceremony will be simple; a closing prayer and blessing, a lone bugler from Marion Military Institute (MMI) playing taps and a Missing Man fly-over organized by retired Lieutenant Colonel Scott Patterson, USAF,” event organizer Kathi Needham said.

The Wall has been in Selma since Monday, April 4 sponsored by the Rotary Club.

Opening ceremonies were conducted by MMI including the drill team, band and color guard.

Keynote speaker was MMI President and Commanding Officer Benson.

“It was a moving ceremony highlighting those young men who gave their lives from Dallas, Perry and Wilcox counties,” Needham said. “In attendance were some of mothers, wives and families on these young men.”

As of Friday afternoon, more than 1,000 people had visited the wall to see the 58,244

names of soldiers that died in Vietnam.
