Early lead not enough as CCA rusty in return from spring break

While the rest of their game was a little rusty coming off spring break, the time off didn’t seem to affect the Central Christian hitters.
Unfortunately for the home team, it wasn’t enough as Lowndes Academy took the 11-6 win.
“We swung the bats fairly well today,” Warriors coach Steven Mackin said. “We had a few errors here and there and basically we beat ourselves.”
CCA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first as
Eric Curtis led off with a single, Bud Shoultz doubled and Andrew Harrison singled. Ben Fleming added a double and CCA was in the driver’s seat.
Lowndes answered with two in the second and three in the fourth for a 5-3 lead.
CCA had another rally in them.
Bradley Savage, Shoultz and Harrison all walked to load the bases.
Fleming’s blooper to right field was dropping in-between the right fielder, first baseman and second basemen when the right field dove.
The ball landed in the webbing of his glove only to bounce out when he hit the turf.
Savage and Shoultz scored.
Everything went Lowndes way after that.
They slapped a pair of triples in a four-run fifth and added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
CCA had some chances but Warrior runners got cut down twice at third in the final two innings, killing any potential rallies.
