William Burwell Dinkins, Jr

William Burwell Dinkins, Jr., 49, a resident of Selma, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery with J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

“Billy” as he was known, was born to the late Dr. William B. and Emma Henderson Dinkins on Sept. 2, 1955. He attended the local public schools and was graduated from Selma High School. He was a graduate of LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, TN. receiving a degree in Business Administration. There he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and other organizations. He later attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio while pursuing his Master’s degree.

He joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church as a child and participated in its activities. He was married to Rosa Watson Dinkins. Billy was associated with several businesses in Alabama and in Indiana; the last being the Cahaba Twin Theater as a co-owner.

He was preceded in death by both parents and a younger brother, Edward L. Dinkins.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Watson Dinkins; three aunts, Pauline D. Anderson (Selma), Ida M. McConnell (High Point, NC) and Ann Thornton(Augusta, GA); mother-in-law, Katie Watson; three step-children; seven grandchildren and many cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Leota O. Dunlavy

Leota O. Dunlavy, 93 of LawrenceviUe, died Thursday, March 3, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Davis Chappell will officiate.

Graveside services will be held at 11a.m., Monday, March 7, 2005, at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta with Rev. John Watley officiating.

A member of Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church, Loyal Laborers Sunday School Class, Mary Martha Circle and Quilting Group, Mrs. Dunlavy was retired from The American Red Cross with 15 years of service. She is survived by Children, Darold & Carolyn Dunlavy of Montgomery, Donna & Ted Elliott of Homer, Ga. and Dean & SuEllen Dunlavy, Montgomery; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Cory Allen Blackmon

Cory Allen Blackmon died Friday March 4, 2005 in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 9, 2005 at Ocmulgee Baptist Church officiated by Dr Robert Taylor and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Cory is survived by his parents, Allen L. and Carrie P Blackmon, his sister Alicia Grace Blackmon, grandmother, Grace Parrish, uncles Ron Blackmon and his wife Carol, Patrick Parrish, Mike Parrish and his wife Wanda, aunts, Kay Wilson, Cheryl Bonham and her husband Doug, great uncle, Ben Ansley; and a host of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nell Blackmon, Jettie Lee “Red” Blackmon, Lewis P Parrish and his brother Clint Blackmon.

As an alternative to flowers the family suggests donations to the Ronald McDonald House 621 Oak Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. The family will greet friends at Lawrence Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Madolyn Elizabeth Barber Denning

Madolyn Elizabeth Barber Denning passed away March 4, 2005 at home in Winter Springs, Florida. Her husband, Carroll P. Denning, preceded her in death in 1996.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday March 7, 2005 at New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by Father Carroll Plourde and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mrs. Denning was born January 22, 1912 in Selma, graduated Selma High School in 1929. After her marriage she she traveled extensively in Europe, Mexico, and South America accompanying her husband in his career.

She is survived by a son, Carroll Darby Denning, daughter-in-law, Janet Denning, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of Florida.

She also is survived by nephew, Deans E Barber, Jr. of Selma, his wife, Marjorie McCormick Barber, one great-niece, one great-nephew, and two great-great-nephews.

Her family knew her as a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all.

Lauralyn Martin Boroughs

Lauralyn Martin Boroughs, 82, of Marion, formerly of Selma, died Thursday in a Marion Nursing home.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 6, 2005 at 3 p.m. in New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by the Rev. W.N. “Sonny” Edwards and directed Lawrence Brown-Servic-Funeral Home.

Mrs. Boroughs is survived by her daughter, Seleta Nicholas and her husband, Nick, of Lubbock, Texas; son, Roy Boroughs, Jr. and his wife, Faye, of Selma; sister, Helen Edwards of Montgomery; brother, Kenneth Martin of Louisiana; grandchildren, Keith Nicholas, Ashley Nicholas, and Denton Boroughs, and one great grandchild Ashlyn.

Tyanna Lashay Moore, 3, resident of Selma, died Friday, March 4, 2005.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2005 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Apostolic Church on Franklin Street with Miller Funeral Home directing.
