Gus Hardy Sr.

Gus Hardy Sr., 82, of Selma, died Sunday, February 27, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at New Sister Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. E.L. Colvin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include his wife Ruby E. Hardy; three sons, Gus Hardy Jr., Bernard L. Hardy Sr. and Michael Hargrove; one daughter, Audrey B. Hardy; five brothers, Dan Hardy, Theodore Tarver, Charles Hardy, Joe Hardy and Willie Hardy; two sisters, Bertha Timmons and Relice Marshall; five grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; other relatives, Jack Gordon, Azaline Blocton, Zelma White and Harriet R. Bates and others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Emily Hardy.

Active pallbearers will be Brothers of Garrett Masonic Lodge #641.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bernard Hardy Jr., Jamaal Hardy and a host of nephews.

Mr. Hardy served as an x-ray tech and medic in an all-Black M.A.S.H. unit in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a master carpenter. He was employed by Melvin C. Heinz Furniture Co. of Selma; he also served as chairman of the Deacon Board at Green Street Baptist Church, Worshipful Master of John L. Garrett Masonic Lodge #641 and served as funeral director for over 40 years at Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

Jo Ann Jackson

Jo Ann Jackson, 54, of Selma, died Monday, February 28, 2005, in Birmingham.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Ellwood Community Church with Pastor Gary Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Brighton Funeral Home of Bessemer directing.

The body will lie in state at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home on Friday, Mar. 4, from 12 noon to 9 p.m.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Jackson.

Wayman Rush

Wayman Rush, 54, of Tyler, died Friday, February 25, 2005.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at New Mt. Lilly Church with the Rev. S.B. Little officiating. Burial will follow in Riggs Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three brothers, Michael Rush Jr., Robert Rush and Calvin Rush; seven sisters, Ethel Brow, Othella Rush, Carrie Mae Rush, Lois Rush, Mary Ann Rush, Ardwilda Rush and Brenda Rush; two devoted aunts, Mary Bradford and Martha Jackson; two uncles, Wayman Barlow and Robert Rudolph.

Anne Welch Boykin

Annie Welch Boykin, 75, of Selma, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, in the Camden City Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Lovelace officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5.

Mrs. Boykin is survived by two sisters-in-law, Wanda Boykin of LaGrange, Ky., and Frances Boykin of Hattiesburg, Miss.; three nieces, Anna Boykin, Dawn Modesty and Linda Albritton; one nephew, Frank Scott Boykin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alma Boykin; two brothers, John S. Boykin and William Scott Boykin; and one sister, Katherine Davis.

Mrs. Boykin was a member of First Baptist Chruch.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Larry Bernard Thomas

Larry Bernard Thomas, 47, of Selma, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Hatcher-Thomas; his mother, Bertha Mae Thomas; one son, Donnie Johnson; two daughters, Sadarry and Tierra Hatcher; four brothers, Carvin J. Thomas (Patricia), Tommie Thomas (Wilma), Charles Thomas and Lee Arthur Thomas; one daughter-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews; one special and devoted niece, Jackie Bernard Hardy Jr., Jamaal Hardy and a host of nephews.

Harris King

Harris King, 62, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at a Mt. Vernon hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Curtis Lamar Lockhart

Curtis Lamar Lockhart, age 70, of Montgomery, formerly of Selma, died Thursday March 3, 2005 in a Montgomery hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. Mr. Lockhart is survived by his wife, Henrietta Lockhart of Montgmoery; son, Craig A. Lockhart of Montgomery, daughter, Kimberly Lockhart-Zemke and her husband Leo of Jones; grandchildren, Dylan Eugene Cole of Jones and Erin Nicole Lockhart of Montgomery; sister-in-law, Joyce Lockhart of Maplesville. Mr. Lockhart was a Fireman with the City of Selma for 34 years. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Selma Fire Department and Dylan Eugene Cole. Active pallbearers will be Sam Chandler, Barney Chandler, Ronald Lockhart and Paul Glaze. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

William B. Dinkins Jr.

William B. Dinkins Jr., 49, of Selma, died March 2, 2005.

Services are scheduled for March 7, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Rodney Morton. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, directed by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

James Brock

James Brock, 72, of Demopolis, died Feb. 26, 2005, at his home. Services will be held Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Baptist Church, Demopolis. The Rev. Charlie Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in Limestone Cemetery, Gallion. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis are entrusted with arrangements.
