Police have yet to make an arrest in the Wednesday night shooting death of Cahaba Twin Theater manager William Dinkins, but they are following up on substantial leads in the case, according to Public Information Officer Lt. David Evans.
Evans said when police arrived at the scene shortly after 6 p.m. they discovered the victim’s body lying near the entrance to the theater with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.
Witnesses told police they saw a man running from the area on foot shortly after the shooting.
“Paramedics and the Dallas County Corner were called, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” Evans said.
Police recovered a significant amount of evidence at the scene and several leads have been developed, Evans said.
Police believe robbery may have been a possible motive in the shooting.
“In order to protect the investigation, the nature of the leads and certain details of the investigation are not being released at this time,” Evans said.
Evans added that investigators are optimistic that an arrest will be made soon.
Dinkins, 49, a resident of L.L. Anderson Avenue, has been manager of the Cahaba Twin Theater since early November, after the previous manager retired from the businesses.
Dinkins was a well-known businessman from a prominent Selma family. He had been operating movie theaters since the 1970s.
Both is grandfather and great-grandfather severed as Presidents of Selma University.
Evans said that due to the fact the crime was committed on Highway 80, a busy state highway, police are hoping that someone may have seen something that may help apprehend the offender.
Evans said citizens who were in the area around the time of the shooting, or if they have information pertaining to the crime, are asked to contact police detectives at 874-2125.
