Sammy G. Griffin
Sammy G. Griffin, 70, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 17, 2005, from the State V. A. Home in Alexander City.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2005, at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Sanders and Rev. Bruce Squires officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanton Ebenezer Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Hilda Carter Griffin; two daughters, Gayle G. (Marvin) Edwards and Sonya G. (Brooks) Hughey of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, David E. (Michelle) Griffin of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Roland V. (Betty) Griffin of Selma; two sisters, Laverne (B. E.) Riley of Demopolis and Nell (Billy) Peavy of Selma; grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Hughey, Billy (Julie) Edwards, Scott (Kimmie) Edwards, David Michael Griffin, Vincent Griffin and Catherine Neyhart; six great grandchildren and former daughter-in-law, Mely Griffin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel C. Griffin and mother, Gladys B. Griffin and brothers, W. D. Griffin and Charles Griffin.
Active pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.
Donations may be made in Sammy’s memory to Stanton Ebenezer Cemetery in Stanton, AL.
Mr. Griffin was engaged in the grocery business for 42 years in Selma, before retiring in 1999 due to illness related to diabetes.
Edwin Robinson Glass Young
Edwin Robinson Glass Young, 58, of Uniontown, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his residence.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Uniontown with Father Bryan Hatchett and George Mckee officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.
Survivors include, one sister: Adele Sommers and her husband Clyde of Panama City, Fla;.
one brother, Willard Pierce Young, Jr. and his wife Veronica Fulton of North Hollywood, Calif.;. one aunt, Emma Glass Beasley of Uniontown;. three cousins, Ellis Beasley Long of Hampton, Va., Mary Leila Schaeffer of Uniontown., and Kurt A. Schaeffer of Houston, Tx.;
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his mother Lyle Davidson Glass young and his father
Willard Pierce Young.
Pallbearers were T.R. Long IV, Robert Bamberg, Archie Sims, Williams Rankin, Jim Rankin and Tommy Allison.
Honorary pallbearers were, William Poellnitz and Richard Byrd.
Mr. Young was born in Boston, Mass. on Sept.3, 1946. A resident of Uniontown, a graduate of the University of Alabama Phi Delta Theta, a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church.

Luretha Milhouse, formerly of Selma, died on February 15, 2005, at a Brooklyn, NY hospital.
J.H.Williams and Sons Funeral Home is directing.
