CCA beats Cornerstone

The Central Christian Academy Warriors hit the boards Monday night in their 51-38 win over Cornerstone Academy.

Four Central Christian players combined for 58 rebounds in the Warriors’ victory.

The win earned the Warriors their first-ever AISA Class 2A, Area 1A West championship. They will host the area tournament beginning Thursday night.

The area title also guarantees CCA a berth into the state’s Final Eight sub-regional tournament.

The Warriors (19-2, 10-0 in the area) were led by Tee Woods with 25 rebounds to go with his 20 points and eight steals.

Bud Smith had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Andre Pearson pulled down 15 rebounds and Simuel Walker chipped in nine rebounds.

The Marion Military Academy Lady Tigers closed out their regular season Monday night with a 43-24 victory over Warrior Academy.

Felicia Sprott paced MMI with 15 points. Yolanda Kelly and Emily Easley each had 13 points.

The MMI boys also closed out their regular season with a victory.

Jovaris Smith poured in 32 points and collected 10 rebounds in the Tigers’ 59-32 win over Warrior Academy.

Clarence Allgood chipped in 13 points and Wendell Crews had 11 for the Tigers.

MMI will host the AISA Class 1A West, Area 4 tournament

beginning Thursday night.

The MMI boys will be the top seed in the area tournament, while the Lady Tigers will have the second seed in the girls’ bracket.
