PLANTERSVILLE – It didn’t take long for the Dallas County High School Hornets to get into their offensive flow Tuesday night.
The Hornets got things going towards at the end of the first quarter and continued the entire game as they knocked off the Demopolis Tigers, 72-60.
“It’s good to get back into the win column as we get geared up for the area tournament,” Hornets coach Bill Porter Jr. said.
Things start clicking for the Hornets (11-11) when Antonio Perry hit a baseline jumper to break a 7-7 first-quarter tie. The Hornets never looked back from there. The first period ended with the Hornets leading 17-12.
The second quarter started with a Rafel Miller three-pointer, followed by a crowd-pleasing windmill slam dunk by Michael Johnson as Dallas County exploded for 22 points to take a 39-25 lead at halftime. Johnson dropped in 14 points in the period.
The Hornets stretched their lead to as much as 17 points in the third, but Demopolis outscored Dallas County in the period, 17-16.
The Tigers tried to make a run early in the fourth quarter, as they cut their deficit to eight, 61-53 with 3:13 left to play.
On Dallas County’s next possession Perry, who was fouled on a drive to the basket, scored the basket and knocked down the free throw for a 3-point play. The tally put the Hornets back up to a double-digit advantage and sealed the victory.
Johnson topped the Hornets with 16 points. Josh Spears and Rafel Miller added 15 and 13 points, respectfully.
