Alphonse Lewis, who was arrested last week after shots were fired in the parking lot of a Highland Avenue shopping center, will make his first court appearance Thursday.

Lewis, 19, was charged with two counts of discharging a weapon into an unoccupied vehicle.

Assistant District Attorney Lloria James said Lewis will remain in the Dallas County Jail until his hearing.

“Right now, he has been denied bond and will appear Thursday,” she said.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, officers responded to shots being fired in the parking lot near KFC’s location.

Several shots were fired before the driver of the Honda Accord that was targeted fled the scene on foot.

The Accord collided with a white Ford Explorer, which also fled the scene.

Officers were able to take Lewis into custody moments after the shooting after he fled the scene and was found walking along the sidewalk in front of nearby stores.

Selma Police Department Lt. Mike Harris said some early evidence shows the suspect and the victim likely knew one another and had a previous history, which could have led to the shooting.

“A lot of times this is what happens when these guys are into it with each other, they don’t care where they are, who gets caught in the crossfire,” Harris said.
