Six students from Selma Middle CHAT Academy will be joining the juniors and seniors of Selma High School as they take the ACT exam on Dec. 11.

According to Mamie Solomon, counselor at CHAT, these select students qualified to participate in the annual Scholastic Talent Search sponsored by the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP).

The TIP program allows these students, all of which are seventh-graders at CHAT, to take the ACT at Selma High on Dec. 11.

These six students are Justin Baker, Ashlyn Goodwin, Brandon Montgomery, Nathan Phillips, Sierra Strong, and Jasmine York.

Solomon said the students became eligible for the TIP program after scoring in the 95 percentile or higher on a grade level standardized achievement, aptitude, mental ability test battery or approved state criterion-references test.

The TIP program works by identifying gifted students from across the country and supporting local efforts to enrich, motivate, challenge bright young students.
