James Rogers Minter

James Rogers Minter, formerly of Marion Jct., died Monday, October 25, 2004, in Bessemer.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday, October 29, at Greater Macandenoia M. B. Church in Bessemer, with Chamber Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include brothers, Eugene Jordan of Atkins, Ark., Alvin L. Minter of Birmingham and Lorenzo (Elaine) Minter of Meridian, Miss.; sister, Ester Minter Whitt of Browns; step-brother, Bobby E. (Jackie) Hurt of Selma; step-sister, Mattie Marie (Clifford Ray) of Gardendale.

Mr. Minter was the son of the late Willie J. Minter and stepson of Beatrice J. Minter of Browns. He was a 1959 graduate of Beloit Training School in Beloit.

Marguerite Evelyn Ballard

Marguerite Evelyn Ballard, 98, a native of Marengo County and resident of Selma, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ballard was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden, where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29.

Services are at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 with the Rev. Glen Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Shilo Cemetery in Dixons Mills with O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden directing.

She is survived by two sons, James G. “Lamar” Ballard of Linden and Kimbrough Ballard of Selma; daughter, Linda Heath of Jackson; sister, Willie Flora Dixon of Providence; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer G. Ballard; her son,

Cedric G. Ballard and daughter Jeanette Lassiter.

Mariah Johnson

Mariah Johnson, 82, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Oct. 30, at the First Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Edmond Charleston officiating. Burial will follow in Scott Memorial Cemetery.

Eastern Start Hour will be held Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m. at Larkin & Scott funeral home in Demopolis.

Paralee Russell

Paralee Russell, 87, of Demopolis, died Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Services are at 1 p.m. Oct. 31, at the Nazareth of Galilee Baptist Church in Demopolis with the Rev. Jesse Bell officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Gallion.

Visitation will be at the church on Sunday beginning at noon with Larkin & Scott directing.

Prudie Walters

Prudie Walters, 79, of Coatopa, died Friday, October 22, 2004 at her residence.

Services are at 1p.m. Oct. 30, at the Bethel Pine Baptist Church in Coatopa with the Rev. Floyd O. Bell officiating.

Burial will follow in Old St. Michael Cemetery in Coatopa.

Family hour will be held Friday night from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.

Merendy Scales

Merendy Scales, 92, of Coatopa, died Monday, October 25, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville.

Services are at 11 a.m. Oct. 30, at Dugg Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Coatopa with the Rev. John Wright officiating.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:15 a.m. with Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.

Lewis Woods, Jr.

Lewis Woods, Jr. of Forkland,

died Saturday, October 23, 2004 at D.C.H. Hospital in Tuscaloosa.

The remains will be transferred to the Cobb Funeral Home in Pontiac, Mich. for funeral services. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis handled the local arrangements.

Theodore Coleman, Jr.

Theodore Coleman, 53, of Selma, died Monday, October 25,2004 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services are at 1 p.m. Oct. 30, at Summer Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. A.L. Allen officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Mary Coleman; children, Kelvin Gunn and Aquinas Dewan

Coleman (Teneare); Jo’ Toi La’Shette Thomas, Q’uatisha LaShay (Tootie) Coleman, Travon Coleman, and Tren Darrius Coleman; brother, Larry (Idella) Coleman; sister, Marian Ann Mason; five aunts, ten uncles and a host of nephews and nieces; two step-children, Delbert (Pooney) Hatcher and Deidra (Peaches) Curtis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Coleman, Sr.

Percy Davis

Perry Davis, 50, of Sardis, died Friday, October 22, 2004 in Morton, Miss.

Services are at 1 p.m. Oct. 30, at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Stevenson E. Tullis officiating.

Burial will follow in the cemetery across from the church.

Survivors include his mother, Rosie Thomas; son, Percy (Angela) Fails; four daughters, Tisha Perryman, Chiquita Davis, Shakesha Holman, and Pamela (Oais) Craig; four brothers, Larry Davis, Alex Thomas, Robert Thomas, and Jerry Thomas; sisters, Savannah Davis, Janie Thomas, Gertrude Hamilton, Shirley Thomas, and Elmira Thomas; five grandchildren, one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be brothers and cousins.
