Following the holidays, many Alabama nonprofits see a lapse in donations even though their needs are just as large.
On Feb. 2, the Alabama Association of Nonprofits, in partnership with the Alabama Broadcasters Association and the Razoo Foundation, will take one day to encourage individual contributions as part of the first Alabama Gives Day.
“The Alabama Broadcasters Association is excited to participate in what will be a historic event for philanthropy in our state and possibly across the nation. The concept of Alabama Gives Day is heartwarming for all who will be part of the event. Alabama radio and TV stations will endeavor to raise record amounts in gifts for charities across the state in a 24 hour period,” said Sharon Tinsley, President of the Alabama Broadcasters Association.
The day, which is a spinoff from a similar event in Colorado, will be backed by Alabama radio and television stations, to further help charitable organizations continue to provide a broad spectrum of aid across the state of Alabama.
Among the local organizations participating in Dallas County are the Salvation Army, ArtsRevive and Sabra Sanctuary.
Salvation Army Major Eric Roberts said the program can provide a huge shot in the arm for his organization.
“It will certainly help us out,” he said. “This year was very good for us during the holiday season as far as people making donations, but our need goes on throughout the year. We rely heavily on donations from the public to continue to meet those needs.”
