Representatives of the Selma Police Department are close to making an arrest in a shooting that took place in the 1700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
The department received a call of a gunshot victim at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, Lt. Johnny King said. Upon arriving on the scene, they discovered a black male in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the chest.
“He was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center by ambulance and we were able to talk to him there,” he said. “He was able to give us a description of the man who shot him.”
King said the department has warrants on the suspect and should be close to making an arrest.
The victim and shooter were familiar with each other, King said, and the shooting is believed to have stemmed from an argument.
“They were acquaintances,” he said. “We have a positive ID and we hope to get him in custody by Friday afternoon.”
The victim’s injuries were not life threatening, King said.
“He was treated and released after an overnight stay,” he said.
As of Friday afternoon, King said authorities felt confident an arrest would be made soon.
