Tax notices will take a different route to those who owe in Dallas County.

The Dallas County Commission voted unanimously to outsource notices to ARISTA during its Monday meeting to relieve some of the stress from Tax Collector Tammy King and her coworkers.

Probate Judge Kim Ballard said outsourcing this service will allow workers in the tax collector’s office to focus on more important issues.

“This company will take care of all of the tax collector’s mail outs, which is some 30,000 per year,” he said. “This will free up the ladies in the office to do other things.”

The bid, which was $19,199.50, will not cause any additional strains to the county’s budget, Ballard said.

“There is no new money in this,” he said.

“It is almost exactly what we had budgeted for postage now. It’ll be done much more professionally and in a way that will allow them to work on other things.”

In addition, the commission also voted to set the county’s millage rate at 34 mills. Ballard said the rate is the same as last year’s and approval is merely a requirement.

“We are required by law to set the millage rates and tax rates before the first meeting in February,” he said.

“This is just a matter of housecleaning.”

The millage is the tax rate used to calculate ad valorem taxes.
