The city of Selma is offering those who have been issued traffic citations a second chance.

Throughout the month of February, the Selma Municipal Court will be offering a one-time, good-faith amnesty program for certain violators to pay off fines and avoid jail time.

Selma Mayor George Evans said he is hoping people will take advantage of the program, which will benefit both recipients of tickets and the city.

“We just want to encourage anyone who might possibly have a traffic warrant to please come by and make sure,” he said. “We have more than 10,000 traffic warrants on the books and that goes back more than 13 years. We want to offer amnesty so they can come by. There is no penalty other than paying the fine.”
