is offering a great deal for motor vehicle owners who need a license tag and would like to help the public school of their choice.

“I think it’s the best deal in town,” she said.

It offers the lowest price for a personalized

tag at the same time it provides much-needed financial assistance to public schools that will soon be reopening.

“The Alabama ‘Helping Schools’ tag has been around for some time,” she said, “but only since May 14 – when the Legislature approved the change – has it been possible for that tag to be personalized.”

“This is the first time this option has been offered,” she said.

Noting the growing popularity of personalized tags across the state and the additional cost of $50 for personalization with other kinds of tags, Watkins said that for only $15 extra the motorist can buy a personalized

“Helping Schools” tag.

Of the $15, $11.63 goes to the city or county school designated by the vehicle owner.

“The Legislature will not allow the school to use the money for any purpose. The money goes to buy school supplies. Schools need that money at the beginning of the year, so now is the perfect time to get a break on a personalized tag and support the school of your choice,” she said.

According to Watkins, a personalized tag must have six or fewer letter and four choices must be submitted with the application that may be secured in the courthouse from her staff.

To help citizens with the process, Watkins said that in about two months there will be a new state Web site which will enable the applicant to find out whether his or her choice for a personalized tag has already been taken by someone else.
