If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to fight crime in the city of Selma, now is your chance.

The Selma Police Department is accepting applications for its first Citizens Police Academy of 2012.

The Academy, Lt. Tommy Weber said, will run from April 3 to May 15 with a graduation ceremony on the final day.

Participation has been great through the first two sessions, Webber said, and he hopes to see even higher numbers this time.

“We’d like to have a class of 15, which is about our limit,” he said. “We had 10 one class and 11 for the second class. Hopefully, we’ll have good participation.”

Sessions will be held every Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Selma Police Department in the In-Service Training Room.

Applicants must be 21 years old, live or work in the police jurisdiction, not have any prior felony arrests or convictions, and not have any misdemeanor arrests or convictions.

There are no physical requirements and no costs involved for the participants.

Participants are required to attend each session to graduate.
