Warrant issued in shooting

Willie Gillcrest, of Circle Drive, and Jacarlo Gunn, of 101 Shepard Street were both shot in the leg by an unknown suspect Sunday morning.

Gillcrest and Gunn were in the parking lot of Top Class nightclub on Cecil Jackson Bypass when an individual fired at them several times with a

9 mm pistol at approximately 3:30 a.m. Gillcrest was shot twice in the leg, while Gunn was shot once. Originally it was reported that only one individual was injured in the attack. The police provided new information on the case.

Ray Pettway Jr., of 7 Luker Circle, attempted to drive Gillcrest to the hospital when the assailant opened fire on his car. Despite the attack, Pettway delivered

Gillcrest to the hospital.

Pettway’s car, a two-door, gold Grand Prix, was hit multiple times, according to police reports. Pettway’s report said that his windshield, mirror, three tires, driver’s side door, passenger side door and quarter panel were damaged.

Gunn was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle as well. They were both treated and released the same day.

Both Gillcrest and Gunn filed complaints of second-degree assault, a felony charge. Pettway filed a report of shooting into a occupied vehicle.

According to police, they both identified the assailant. While police haven’t made an arrest, they are in the process of preparing a warrant.

The Selma Times-Journal was unable to contact the victims.

Reports show that shell casings from a 9 mm and a black holster were found. Gunn’s report also identifies the weapon as a 9 mm as well.

Police are expected to provide more information at a press conference today.
