Selma native and professional golfer Mike Smith continues to excel on the national level.
Smith, a resident of Titusville, Fla. who was born in Selma in 1950, qualified for the PGA in Boca Raton, Fla. at Broken Sound Golf Club after shooting a bogey free 4 under 67 on Monday.
The Champions Tour Allianz Championship takes place Feb. 10-12 with Smith teeing off on Friday morning.
Dick Bradbury, friend and caddy of Smith who’s known him since 1965, said he’s not surprised Smith has continued to play at a high level, but it’s still always great to see.
“He’s always been a good player,” Bradbury said. “It’s neat. Inside the ropes are a lot nicer. He’s the best golfer to come out of Selma. He won numerous amateur events when he turned pro in 1972.”
