Investigators with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department found the bodies of two men in what is believed to be a murder/suicide near a residence just off County Road 993.
Sheriff Harris Huffman said someone called 911 shortly after 7 a.m. Friday claiming a suicide may have occurred at the home of 75-year-old Carl Price.
“When I arrived on the scene, I found a Ford Bronco backed into the woods,” Huffman said. “It looked as if it hit a tree at a high rate of speed.”
Inside the vehicle, Huffman discovered the body of 40-year-old Thomas Price, who appeared to have been shot in the torso.
Shortly thereafter, investigators found the body of Carl Price in the living room of his home at 67 County Road 993. He apparently died of a self-inflected gunshot wound to the head.
According to Huffman, investigators believe Thomas visited the home of his father early Friday morning and confrontation ensued.
“Shots were fired, and it looked as if Thomas fled the home and tried to drive for help,” Huffman said. “He lost control of his vehicle in the driveway, hit a tree, and put the Bronco in reverse. He died there in his truck.”
After the shooting, the elder Price called a friend or relative and told the person what happened before turning the gun on himself.
Huffman said that unidentified individual then called police.
“This is still a preliminary investigation. We still don’t know all the details,” Huffman said. “One handgun was recovered at Carl Price’s home.”
The younger Price lived in a trailer near his father, between County Roads 221 and 63, just north of Valley Grande.
Investigators are still uncertain what events lead to the shooting, but it is believed the elder Price had a mental condition.
Huffman said the investigation into this case is still ongoing.
