Matthew Wallace Jones was sitting on a relative’s porch on Mechanic Street when a group of Selma Police and U.S. Marshalls descended and arrested him early yesterday afternoon.

Jones is wanted by Rhode Island State Police and the Boston, Mass. Police Department for drug trafficking, the attempted murder of a police officer and sex offenses.

Jones is a known danger, according to police.

“He’s reputed to have made statements that he would never be taken alive,” Capt. Anita Barlow, acting chief of police said.

Despite the reputation, police reports say Jones was capture without incident.

“The raid was a well-planned tactical maneuver,” Barlow said.

According to a press release from the Selma Police Department, officers received information that Jones came to Selma to stay with a relative while he was a fugitive.

Jones was transported to the Dallas County Jail. He’ll be held without bond until an extradition hearing is convened.

While Chief Robert Green is away at a chief’s conference, Barlow, as senior officer, will take the place of the assistant chief until Green’s return.
