The Lady Hornets assured themselves of the number one seed in their area tourney with a win over Greensboro 13-3 Monday at home.

The Lady Hornets didn’t score until the third inning, when they brought four across the plate.

Dallas County pitcher Mallory Miller struck out six of the first seven batters she faced. She struck out a total of ten for the game. In the third inning the Lady Hornets were able to score four runs, taking advantage of two walks, two errors, and a RBI single by Jessica Melton.

The Lady Raiders squeezed out a run in their half of the fourth. The Lady Hornets came back with seven, as they sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.

The inning featured a two-run triple off the bat of Cassie Newman, and a two-run single by Kindel Simmons.

There were also four walks in the inning. That gave Dallas County an 11-1 lead going into the fifth. Greensboro capitalized on a walk and two errors in the inning to score two runs, but the Lady Hornets came back with two in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Miller gave up only three hits in the game and walked just two. Dallas County received a minor scare when Miller was banged up on a play at the plate.

She covered home on a wild pitch and the sliding runner collided with her ankle.

After a few tense moments for the Hornets’ fans, Miller was able to get up and finish the game.

The Lady Hornets had six hits for the game.

The other four hits were from Courtney Lambert, who doubled in a run,

Miller, Rachel Coley and Jessica Melton had singles.

Dallas County, with a record of 21-9. will face 10th ranked Bibb County Tuesday, before they head to Demopolis for the area tournament to face the winner of the Demopolis/Greensboro game on Friday.
