For the fourth year, Selma Ward 4 City Council member Angela Benjamin will host the Black Man Heal and Expressions Black History Celebration at the Performing Arts Center.

The event, which begins Monday, Feb. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and continues Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m., will feature a number of guest speakers and panelists, featuring keynote speaker Donald P. Stone, author of “Fallen Prince.”

Already, Benjamin said there has been a great deal of buzz about the event.

“We have a lot of interest this year, and hopefully we can accommodate it because school is out,” she said. “The event is on President’s Day, so we expect the numbers to be greater.”

Since the program began, Benjamin said she has seen positive feedback from the program that is based off the principals of the book “Black Man Heal.”

“I had two college students who said they had taken some of the techniques from the book and took them back to the communities,” she said. “They said they actually work because they are simple. Some of those young men have now become mentors in their own community.”

The program features medical doctors to stress the importance of good health and the importance of spiritual relationships for families, communities and cities.

The road to college and pathway to financial stability is also highlighted through other panelists.

The different speakers, Benjamin said, are all scheduled for the same purpose: To change people’s lives.
